EDTC 610 instructional technology capstone project
Reflection
The artifact I chose to highlight is my final Instructional Technology Capstone Project. This website summarizes all my learnings throughout the past year and a half at Regis. I was amazed to go back and look at every single assignment I had created along the way. The courses were fast paced with one learning opportunity after another. Having this time to go back and summarize my learnings and what they meant to me as a teacher has been an invaluable experience. I used Weebly to create this site. I have now created six Weebly websites for various purposes. Each time I use it I like it more and more for it's ease of use.
I’m especially proud of the narrated video on the home page. I learned a little more about the possibilities of iMovie. I decided to use Screen-cast-o-matic to create screen-casts of many artifacts, so when I’m talking about them on the video the audience can visualize what I am describing. In the video, I not only talk about my learnings, but I tried to provide many examples of how this class has impacted my classroom by showing videos of my learnings in action in the classroom. This website and video will be a great asset to have in the future as proof of the many skills I acquired while at Regis. It has certainly been an inspiring journey!

Research
While looking back at all my classes throughout this course the idea that technology cannot just be an extra add on has really hit home. Technology should be used in the classroom to enhance the content teachers already teach. We need to use it to help our kids attain those higher-level skills of creating and summarizing their knowledge of the content we are teaching. Personally, I am excited more than ever to start using these tools with my kids. Finding ways to engage Kindergarteners and keeping their interest peeked day in and day out can be very challenging. Fortunately, with so much technology available, I can “WOW” my kids with new and exciting tools, keeping them on their feet and wanting to come to school every day.
In this class we read the book about reflective teaching. In it they describe the five traditions of reflective teaching. I think my teaching style best fits with the social efficiency tradition, which says that the scientific study of teaching provides a basis for teaching expertise. This one stands out to me because of how much I emphasize the constructivists approach in my classroom with the kids learning by doing, rather than being passive listeners. I also agree with Marzano’s strategies of goal setting, immediate feedback, self-reflection, graphic organizers and practice. How children learn best is always in the forefront of my mind when planning lessons. In the book they describe two different stands of social efficiency. I think I’m the second one a “deliberative strand in which the findings of research are used as one among many sources by teachers in solving problems.” If something doesn’t work I move on and think of another solution. I find in Kindergarten that what works with one class doesn’t necessary work with the next. They get bored easily, so I’m always changing my methods and keeping my class upbeat and fun so they don’t know what to expect next!
Do's and Don't of this class!
