The National Education Association suggests that an effective AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) for the Internet contain the following six key elements.
1. Preamble 4. Acceptable Use
2. Definition Section 5. Unacceptable Uses
3. Policy Statement 6. Violations/Sanctions

In summary, I think Bethke’s AUP could be improved. Three of the six elements were missing and the organization of sections could be changed to make it easier for the readers to organize what they can and cannot do while on the Internet. At the bottom of the policy there is a link to more information that helps parents know when and how to talk with their children about being online. I think this is a great resource for parents and I like the fact that it was included in the Bethke’s AUP. I’ve attached the document below.
